# Services are the new software. Here’s what that means for agencies.

Agency buyers have changed what they pay for. A retainer used to buy access to people and hours. Now clients want the outcome: a funnel that converts, a campaign that’s live by Friday, a report that shows what the spend returned. The work has become the product.

Where agency delivery hours go

Illustrative · one client campaign · width = share of hours

- Production
- Coordination
- Launch and optimization
- Strategy

Notes: Production covers copy, creative and landing pages. Coordination covers briefs, reviews and client back-and-forth.

Most of those hours go to production and coordination, which is the work clients see least and value least. Over the past year we’ve rebuilt Olympus around that gap, so agencies spend their people on judgment and let the system carry the production load.

## Buyers pay for finished work

Clients no longer ask how many people are on their account. They ask when the campaign goes live and what it will return. That shifts the agency’s job from staffing work to guaranteeing it.

The agencies growing fastest this year price by outcome, commit to launch dates, and treat their tools as the production line behind those promises.

## Where agency hours go

When we mapped a typical campaign with agency partners, the same three patterns kept appearing:

- Copy and creative are rewritten three or four times before a client approves them.
- Work moves between six or more tools, and each handoff loses context.
- Reporting is assembled by hand at the end of the month, after it could change anything.

## Moving production to agents

In Olympus, a brief goes to a team of agents instead of a queue of freelancers. The research agent studies the market, the copy agent drafts in your brand voice, and the studio produces images and video. Every draft lands in one workspace, next to the funnel and ads it’s for.

Because the work stays in one place, nothing is re-explained at a handoff. A change to the offer flows into the copy, the landing page and the ad set together.

## Keeping the team in control

Agents draft; people decide. Nothing reaches a client or an ad account without a person on your team approving it. Strategists set direction, account leads approve work, and media buyers set budgets and limits the agents can’t exceed.

That keeps the judgment clients pay for with the agency, while the system handles the repetitive work.

## What changes in pricing

When production costs less, hourly billing works against the agency. Partners who switched to outcome-based retainers kept the margin that faster production creates, instead of passing it back as fewer billable hours.

Early partners say the biggest change is how many clients each strategist can handle.

## What we’re building next

We’ll keep measuring where agency time goes and move more of it into the system: live campaign reporting, faster approvals, and agents that learn each client’s preferences over time.
